Why did you decide to join Usercentrics?
I was hoping to work with the technology stack that we have here for a long time. Having a company that meets all my needs is just phenomenal. Usercentrics is a fast-growing company that has a very powerful product that it’s being used by people all around the world. The company’s mission and leadership make me think that I’m in the right place at the right time.
What are your main responsibilities?
To summarize, my job is to deliver the best-in-class SDK for our Content Management Platform. By applying good software engineering practices, the focus is to deliver a good product fast, within budget (and time constraints) with outstanding quality.
How was your onboarding process?
It was more than great! I felt a warm welcome since the first interview. Being Brazilian, my first job here in Portugal had some cultural clashes. Moving to a German company increased my fears of having to adapt even more, but that was not the case at all, the people here are very open and the company is already so diverse that I couldn’t feel more welcomed.
What are the biggest challenges in starting to work remotely? Did change something in your lifestyle?
Definitely, the biggest challenge is to work all by myself. I’ve always worked in an office filled with friends and people always ready for some after-hours fun time. Nowadays I have a calmer routine and due to Covid I’m also locked up most of the time, so this is something that can get me frustrated, but the key here is to not let the work take all my free time.
How is your daily routine?
I wake up very early in the morning to enjoy the sun as much as possible (that’s why I love to work in this corner of my home), and the first thing that I do is jump into my computer and start coding. I feel that it’s the best way to start a productive day. Due to timezone differences, our engineering team (that’s located in Portugal) has a Daily meeting at 9 am, as soon as this meeting ends I have breakfast, then another break for some in-doors physical activity. After that, I work normally and wait for one of the best events of my routine: lunchtime. I usually have a long and comfortable slot for lunch, so that I’m prepared to face the rest of my workday.
How do you keep in contact with your team?
Nowadays we are just doing regular meetings and having some pair programming sessions, social events were not possible yet, but we all have plans to do some gatherings as soon as Covid takes another break.
What is the biggest advantage of starting to work remotely at a company?
It’s a tough topic to approach since I wanted to have this experience for a long time, but Covid made it mandatory because I had no choice of going back to the office again. To me, it has been an awesome journey: I have truly flexible work hours, there is more time to do physical activities, and lunchtimes are way more enjoyable since I don’t have to rush to go back to the office. Covid times has brought a lot of negative points to truly evaluate the experience of working remotely especially for people that have always worked in the office, but as soon as we start to have a social routine again I believe that it’ll be a breaking change for every tech company.
How did Softlanding support you in this stage?
You people literally made my plans become reality. I wanted to experience working remotely for a company outside of Portugal that aligns with my professional needs and Usercentrics is a company that meets this with excellence. Softlanding also helped me with all the hiring bureaucracy, solving all my concerns almost magically. Everything ran so smoothly and way faster than I thought it would be. 😀
